Shealy receives call and official notice: she will appear on the November ballot

Katrina Shealy has received official notification from the South Carolina Election Commission that her name will appear on the November 6 general election ballot.

On July 11 Shealy submitted to the Election Commission more than 3,200 signatures of South Carolina voters who wanted her name placed on the ballot for the State Senate. SC election law stipulates that just under 2,700 signatures were needed; Shealy more than surpassed that number.

“I am grateful for the thousands of South Carolina voters who want my name on the ballot and who want me to be their next State Senator,” said Shealy. “The ballot issues spurred by my opponent earlier this year were only a distraction. People want to know they can have a trustworthy State Senator who will focus on their jobs, on our economy, taxes and our values. That is why I am running;that is my focus,” she added.

Earlier this year Shealy had filed to run on the Republican primary election ballot only to have her name removed, along with many other candidates in the state, due to a technically fueled by a lawsuit filed by a paid campaign worker for the Jake Knotts campaign. The South Carolina Republican Party’s Executive Committee voted unanimously to have Katrina Shealy’s name placed back on the ballot but it was too late for the primary election – now she will appear on the General election ballot.

“Clearly we need a change. Our current Senator, Jake Knotts, has shown he will do whatever it takes to win – including involvement with ballot lawsuits and filing false campaign finance reports. That is not who or what we want representing our District. That is not the kind of behavior we want to teach our children,” Shealy said.

“We need a Senator who will fight for our jobs, for our kids education and for our common sense, conservative values. I will put my proven business experience to work. I will focus on what needs to get done to move our state forward. Jake Knotts has failed our District and our state for too long. He has continually helped himself with back room deals and power plays while fending off calls for his resignation due to his racially charged statements. He is a distraction and we need to move forward,” said Shealy.
